This dairy-free Basil Hemp Seed Pesto is an easy way to add a pop of flavour to dishes and is packed with plant-based protein and Omega-3 fats!
Summer is here, and that means plenty of fresh herbs! For once my basil plant is thriving, so a fresh batch of pesto was definitely in order. It’s one of my absolute favourite ways to really transform a meal and brighten up a dish.
This homemade pesto is full of plant-based protein and omega-3 fats thanks to the hemp seeds. It’s also dairy-free, so is perfect for anyone who is avoiding dairy but still wants to enjoy this delicious condiment.
Ingredients needed
All you need to make this easy basil pesto are 7 simple ingredients:
- fresh basil
- hemp seeds – feel free to use walnuts, pine nuts, or sunflower seeds instead!
- garlic cloves
- nutritional yeast – this gives the pesto a delicious cheese-like flavour. You can omit this or use fresh parmesan cheese instead (around 1/4-1/3 cup) if you aren’t dairy free.
- fresh lemon juice – adds the perfect bit of acidity and brightens up the pesto.
- sea salt
- extra-virgin olive oil
What to eat bail pesto with
- my favourite way – in pasta! The combination of pasta, chicken, sundried tomatoes, and black olives is always a winner.
- add to salad dressings or sauces.
- use as a spread on toast, sandwiches or wraps.
- use as a topping on baked salmon, chicken or roasted veggies.
- drizzle over eggs.
- mix with yogurt for a delicious dip.
